In April of 2008, Alexander McCray incorporated Global Cleantech Connect; an innovative global market
assessment and business development company that provides assistance to businesses from around the
world in the cleantech industry that seeks to enhance market outreach, increase production and expand
international sales. In addition, Alex manages The Global Sustainability Institute, a nonprofit organization
dedicated to provide a global learning center for sustainability where people from around the world come
together to share information and showcase cutting edge clean technologies including products, services
and processes that provide a pathway to economic development opportunities of sustainable business and
living practices.
Mr. McCray works with many of the consulates and bi-lateral chambers located in Metro Atlanta to develop
trade missions to and from the U.S showcasing both U.S. businesses and international cleantech businesses.
Over the last four years Alex has developed and produced the Environmental Trade Mission (ETM) and
many trade missions throughout the Southern and Southeastern U.S. Additionally, Alex coordinates the
activities for the Foreign Trade Representative Group (FTRG) that consists of all the trade officers of the
international community located in Metro Atlanta. Activities include working with economic development
offices in cities throughout the Southeast to provide insight to the economic opportunities available in their
city. These activities and as board member of the World Chamber of Commerce, Alex understands the
significance of international partnerships to establish economic development and new jobs.
Prior to incorporating his internationally focused consulting company Alex worked in Mayor Franklin’s
Office for the City of Atlanta. His responsibilities included project management of Summit on Guns and
Drugs and the Gap analysis on the City’s Homeland Security. In 2005, Alex took on the responsibility as
Project Manager for the Permitting Improvement Project. Under the direction of the Deputy Chief
Operating Officer, Alex facilitated in the design and execution of strategies for this project to improve the
City’s ability to process building permits in a timely, efficient and cost effectivly. In 2003, Mayor
Franklin accepted Bain and Company’s proposal to implement pro-bono research and develop a New
Century Economic Development Plan (EDP). The plan recommended goals to boost economic development
and the City’s ability to implement the recommendations. The project targeted three broad areas of
opportunity: customer satisfaction, business process improvements, and technology improvements and
existing technology upgrades. During the two-year project Alex worked with many of the leading
development firms, architectural firms and construction companies and coordinated the activities of the
Advisory Board to Mayor Franklin. The project was a huge success with the primary accomplishment the
reduced time to permit by 50 percent.
Alex went on to constitute and head The Environmental Affairs
Office for the City of Atlanta. During this time Alex managed the USCM Energy Summit, the development of
Sustainable Atlanta and the city’s first inventory of sustainable measurements and sustainability reports.
Alex has had the pleasure of serving the Metro Atlanta community by volunteering on several boards of
environmentally conscious organizations including: Board Member and Chair, Environmental Committee,
World Chamber of Commerce; Advisory Board Member, Keep Atlanta Beautiful; Board Member, Atlanta
Recycles; Advisory Board Member, Georgia Restaurant Association Green Foodservice Alliance; Recycling
Materials Management Advisory Group, Sustainable Atlanta; Business Recycling Task Force, City Council,
City of Atlanta; and a member of "The Pool of Experts" through a joint venture of the Swiss-American
Chamber of Commerce, Fargate AG, Flare International and Osec Business Network Switzerland. Mr.
McCray attended the University of Houston and Our Lady of the Lake and majored in marketing
